Additional rains that are forecast to fall across the state today could cause flash flooding to redevelop across the southern mountains in areas that are already saturated from days of rain. Minor flooding is already occurring in some areas of eastern North Carolina as last week’s rains move downstream through the river basins. 

“Everyone should stay alert to changing weather conditions and have a way to receive weather and flood warnings,” said Governor Roy Cooper. 
As the state observes Human Trafficking Awareness Month this January, ALE congratulates Special Agent and Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Task Force Officer (TFO) Bryan Irwin on his selection as the 2019 recipient of HSI’s Outstanding Efforts in Combating Human Trafficking Award.

RALEIGH - Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks today announced Bryan House as the director of the Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) Division.  Director House has been serving in an interim role since Oct. 1 when ALE was re-established as a division within the Department of Public Safety.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice reports that two juveniles have escaped from Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center located at 850 Holshouser Road, Concord, NC.  The juveniles who escaped are identified as Christopher H. and Mikal M. They were last seen at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019. The division has notified local law enforcement and is cooperating fully with the investigation.
Department of Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks and other state officials today officially dedicated the new dining hall at Samarcand Training Academy in a ribbon-cutting ceremony held in Moore County.The newly constructed 7,500 square foot building is capable of seating 180 students, guests and visitors. The facility offers greatly expanded space and amenities compared to the smaller cafeteria it replaces. Groundbreaking began in February 2018 and was recently completed by the NC DPS Inmate Construction Program at a cost of $2.7 million.
In recognition of the important public service provided by the state’s probation/parole officers, Gov. Roy Cooper has proclaimed July 21-27, 2019, as Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Officers’ Week in North Carolina.

 
State correctional and law enforcement officers are seeking Lanesboro Minimum Custody offender Lamorris W. Rivers (#0830041) who was reported missing from the facility Saturday evening.

Rivers, 31, is described as a black male with a medium build, standing 6-feet tall and weighing 198 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, originally from Anson County, NC. He is serving a sentence for Speeding/Eluding arrest and was admitted to prison on August 17, 2018. He was scheduled for release August 13, 2019.
