Our mission is to improve the quality of life of North Carolina residents, enhance public safety, and reduce and prevent crime by improving the criminal justice system.
CJAC: Reported Violent Offenses Decreased in First Half of 2025
The Criminal Justice Analysis Center analyzed National Incident-Based Reporting System data for North Carolina from January 2020 through June 2025 to identify trends in reported crime. The 2025 data, available through the North Carolina Justice Data Portal, are preliminary and may shift once full-year data are final.
The mid-2025 trends in reported crime indicate:
- Violent crime and burglary have continued to decrease since 2020
- The use of firearms in violent crimes decreased sharply in the first half of 2025
- Motor vehicle theft peaked in late 2023 and continues to decline
