The American Association of State Troopers has kicked off the 2023 National Best-Looking Cruiser Contest and the NCSHP will be represented again this year with a special photo submission to highlight our state’s iconic patrol vehicles as well as showcase a touch of North Carolina history. This year’s photo submission pays homage to the North Wilkesboro Speedway.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety has tapped Gerard Tate to lead the state’s Office of Violence Prevention. Tate will serve as the first director of an office established by Governor Roy Cooper in March to help the state reduce violence and firearm misuse.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced the creation of a statewide Office of Violence Prevention that will be located in the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. By coordinating efforts across state agencies and partnering with local leaders, the new office will focus on reducing violence and firearm misuse in North Carolina.

Department of Public Safety employees around the state donated school supplies to North Carolina students as part of the Governor’s School Supply Drive. Secretary Eddie M. Buffaloe Jr. traveled to Randolph County and Asheboro City schools on Oct. 10 to donate supplies.

The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has named Tyshanda Brown the new director of Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Greenville. A native of Beaufort County, Brown began her new duties on Sept. 12 after her promotion from facility supervisor.
