NC Office of Violence Prevention Technical Assistance

What is Technical Assistance?

Technical assistance (TA) is the process of providing specialized support, resources, and expertise to help organizations build capacity to achieve their mission and program goals.
As one of our core functions, the NC Office of Violence Prevention offers TA upon request to further support agencies focused on addressing community violence. We offer customized TA based on the organization’s needs to provide tailored resources, expertise, and strategies to enhance their work.

NC OVP helps organizations understand and use data to strengthen programs and initiatives. We can provide support on understanding and using data to inform program planning and implementation, identifying relevant data sources, and retrieving public data to support your organization’s needs.

We offer letters of support to agencies who have an established relationship with our office for opportunities that align with our office’s mission and strategic priorities. An established relationship means your organization has previously collaborated with us, participated in our programs, or engaged in ongoing communication related to NC OVP’s efforts.

If you are seeking a letter of support and have not previously engaged with us, we will request a meeting to learn more about your organization, discuss your goals, and explore opportunities for support and collaboration.

Letters of support requested less than 72 hours prior to deadline may not be reviewed.

Our office provides resources and guidance to help organizations design new programs or enhance existing ones. This can include feedback on implementation strategies, assistance in aligning programs with community needs, and collaborative sessions to brainstorm program ideas. Whether you are starting from scratch or refining current efforts, we work with you to ensure your programs are impactful and meet the needs of your community.

NC OVP offers guidance and strategies to help organizations effectively evaluate prevention and intervention programs. We can assist with designing evaluation plans, provide guidance on evaluation plan implementation, and help interpreting results. Additionally, we can provide support with communicating evaluation results to various stakeholders, ensuring your data can appropriately inform future decision-making.

NC OVP values opportunities to connect directly with organizations and the communities they serve. We welcome invitations to visit organizations on site to learn how programs are implemented and better understand community needs at the local level. Additionally, we encourage invitations to community events such as town halls, listening sessions, and other community events focused on preventing community violence.

Please note that requests for an OVP team member to attend your event does not include a presentation. If you would like for us to speak at your event, you will need to select ‘Speaker Request’ on the TA Request Form.

We welcome opportunities to share our expertise on a wide range of topics related to violence prevention. This can include presentations on establishing Offices of Violence Prevention (OVPs), developing and implementing violence prevention programming, understanding community violence, and addressing firearm-related violence. Our team can tailor presentations to meet the needs of your audience to provide relevant content.

Our office provides specialized knowledge and resources to help address community violence effectively. We share best practices and evidence-based models that have been proven successful in reducing violence, along with current research and literature to inform your decision-making. Our team can also offer insights tailored to specific topics, such as strategies relevant for a particular demographic or unique circumstance, ensuring that your organization has access to the most relevant and up-to-date information.

NC OVP supports organizations in building long-term sustainability and impact. This type of TA can include guidance on strategic planning to help you set clear goals and actionable steps, as well as strategies for identifying and leveraging funding opportunities. We can also assist with partnership development by connecting you to other practitioners in the state and help you build strong collaborations with key stakeholders.
