Charlene Shabazz
Director, Human Resources
The Secretary of the Department of Public Safety Eddie M. Buffaloe Jr. announced Charlene Shabazz as the department’s director of Human Resources in November, 2022. She served as DPS’ deputy director of human resources since 2017.
Shabazz has more than 35 years of human resources experience, mostly with the state of North Carolina. Before joining DPS, she worked for the Office of State Human Resources as a business operations director, HR manager/director, HR consultant, HR personnel officer and workers’ compensation consultant.
As director of human resources, Shabazz is responsible for overseeing all of the office’s operations including policy management, legal compliance, benefits and talent acquisition.
