Law Enforcement

The Department of Public Safety houses several law enforcement divisions charged with a variety of public safety missions. These divisions consist of both sworn and civilian employees.

State Highway Patrol

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible.

Alcohol Law Enforcement

ALE is the lead enforcement agency for the state's alcoholic beverage control, lottery and tobacco laws.

State Capitol Police

The North Carolina State Capitol Police is charged with providing a safe and secure environment for public officials, state employees and visitors within the North Carolina State Government Complex, as well as at state-owned properties entrusted to its care.

Homeland Security

Working together across all government and private sector landscapes, homeland security teams promote a safer and more resilient North Carolina.
