A Fayetteville hookah lounge is without ABC permits and the owner criminally charged after a fatal shooting occurred at the business.

On Monday, May 30, ALE was notified of a homicide at Airborne Hookah Lounge, located at 5007 Raeford Road in Fayetteville.

The investigation revealed a dispute between two employees led to a shootout just outside the rear door of the business. Three individuals were shot, one of which was fatally wounded.  ALE special agents found the permittee, Marwan Al Janabi, 34, of Fayetteville, provided false statements to FPD homicide detectives the night of the shooting. ALE also discovered the armed security guard Al Janabi hired for the event was not licensed through the North Carolina Private Protective Services Board.

On Thursday, June 9, Al Janabi was arrested for employing an unlicensed armed security guard, allowing unlawful acts to occur on the licensed premises, and failing to superintend the business on May 30.

A report outlining the numerous violations was submitted to the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (ABCC) and on Friday, June 17, the business’ temporary ABC permits were rejected.

The shooting investigation is ongoing with the Fayetteville Police Department.
